Vitamin D and Ovarian Cancer
نویسنده
چکیده
Ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. The vitamin D receptor (VDR) is weakly to moderately expressed in normal ovarian cell, but is more strongly expressed in ovarian cancer line and tumor tissue. In vitro studies have reported that vitamin D administration inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis in a dose dependent manner in both animal and human ovarian cancer cell lines. With available literature in the background, there is an urgent need to conduct a large case control trial to evaluate the association of vitamin D receptor gene polymorphism Fok1 with the risk of epithelial ovarian cancer. Also, we need to evaluate the levels of serum vitamin D in epithelial ovarian cancer patients. ISSN: 2577-2015

The role of polymorphism of TaqI in Vitamin D receptor gene and risk of ovarian cancer in women of North India
Background & objective: Ovarian cancer mortality is associated with lower regional sunlight exposure. Vitamin D and its metabolites are best known for their action in calcium and bone metabolism. However, epidemiological studies have suggested that an increased ovarian cancer risk is associated with decreased production of vitamin D. The vitamin D signaling pathway is involved in a wide variety...
متن کاملVitamin D and VDR gene polymorphism (FokI) in epithelial ovarian cancer in Indian population
INTRODUCTION Vitamin D deficiency and vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism, FokI, is reported to increase the risk of many cancers. Role of vitamin D and its receptor polymorphisms in ovarian cancer has not been clearly defined. OBJECTIVE To study the levels of serum vitamin D and occurrence of vitamin D receptor gene polymorphism (FokI) in cases of ovarian cancer. MATERIAL AND METHOD...
متن کاملVitamin D postpones the progression of epithelial ovarian cancer induced by 7, 12-dimethylbenz [a] anthracene both in vitro and in vivo.
PURPOSE Ovarian cancer is the most lethal malignancy of the female reproductive system, and the prevention and treatment of ovarian carcinoma are still far from optimal. Epidemiological studies reported that ovarian cancer risk was inversely associated with low level of 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)]. Therefore, this study focuses on exploring the chemoprevention of vitamin D on epithelial ovari...
متن کاملSurrogates of Long-Term Vitamin D Exposure and Ovarian Cancer Risk in Two Prospective Cohort Studies
Experimental evidence and ecologic studies suggest a protective role of vitamin D in ovarian carcinogenesis. However, epidemiologic studies using individual level data have been inconsistent. We evaluated ultraviolet (UV)-B radiation, vitamin D intake, and predicted plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels as long-term surrogates of vitamin D exposure within the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) an...
متن کاملارتباط چند شکلی های FOK1 و BSMI گیرنده ی ویتامین D با سرطان پستان در زنان شهرستان ارومیه
Background & Aims: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide and accounts for one third of all cancers in women. Vitamin D and its metabolites have a critical role in bone metabolism and any decrease in synthesis and production of this vitamin causes cancers, including breast and ovarian and colon. In this study, we examined the relationship between FOK1 and BSMI rest...
